Don’t you just love this!?
This week has been a bit all over the place for me. However on reflection the good things are actually outweighing the bad. So time to send some love & gratitude out into the universe.
Spending time with a friend before he moves interstate – The Hermitude gig – Baking! Something I rarely do – Anticipation of celebrating my friends engagement on the weekend – Anticipation of my Valentines date – Learning to accept change – Crying over TV shows, pathetic but Hugh Sheridan left Packed to the Rafters! – Mentors – Advice – Spontaneous trip to Yarra Glen – Knowing that I have some very loving and supportive people around me.
What’s been going with you, my friends?
I have also found so much fun on the Internet this week – it never ceases to amaze me how much is out there! So without further ado…
- For a romantic like myself, I was bawling over this video!
- Invest in yourself! A short video with some fantastic thoughts.
- One of my fav songs from the 90′s was re-mixed by the band that wrote the original. Love that!
- My beloved football team, the Essendon Bombers are in the news for all the wrong reasons at the moment. However only a week or so ago they launched their 2013 season with THIS! Remember the happier times – LETS GO BOMBERS!
- Chuck Bass. Need I say more!?
Have a fabulous weekend!
The last few weeks have been totally outrageous but lot’s of fun. So today is a bit of a snap-happy post
My housemate, R bought tickets to one of her favourite bands, Coldplay months ago and was super excited. However, she had also booked a Europe trip for the same time so my other housemate E and I snapped up the tickets. I enjoy Coldplay but have never been a die-hard fan but the concert was AMAZING! One of the best I have ever been too… fireworks, glowing arm bands, confetti, beach balls and more. It’s hard to describe just how incredbile it was but I think everyone that went was feeling pretty privileged!
After the craziness that was Spring Carnival it was so relaxing to go to Dunkeld Races. A friend had organised a bus so we all clambered on early in the morning and were taken straight to the racecourse. It was great to catch up with so many people and see friends, old and new. Nothing like a bit of drama to finish the day though… I ended up in emergency at about 1am with some weird allergic reaction. On the way home my lip swelled up something crazy and my torso broke up in red itchy bumps… nothing was helping so I gave my mum an emergency call who suggested I go up to the hospital. I then spent a couple of hours waiting to be seen and was finally sent home with pills and potions. Fortunately the next morning I had recovered but I had a similar reaction the following weekend. Not sure what is going on there!?
Miss Murphy & I
The Friday before I returned to Melbourne we had a good friends 21st which was outrageously fun… I think we arrived at 8.30 and by about 9.30 I was on the dance floor. Of course I decided it would be a good idea to have the after party at my parents house. So after becoming disconnected the group I wandered home on my own to find the house was well and truly in party mode… champagne popped, party poppers everywhere, people throwing things in the oven and goodness knows what else. By some miracle my parents slept through it! However they woke to a very different looking house to the one they went to sleep in. Ooooops! I have no idea how they put up with a daughter like me sometimes!! Thanks M&D!! However I paid for it big time on Saturday, I have not experienced that sort of hangover since first year uni… agony!
Color Run – Before
Color Run – After
I was supposed to drive back to Melbourne Saturday night for a party but I could barely move so on Sunday I rallied myself at 5am and drove straight to Flemington Race Course for the COLOR RUN! I have seriously been so excited about this for about a year when I first read about it on some of my favourite USA blogs. Finally, finally it came to Australia and I was determined to be a part of it. At every km they throw color on you so by the end of the 5km you are one big color mess. Above are shots of my girlfriends before and after the run. The end is probably the best, color everywhere, dance party, food and drinks. But I strongly recommend you get involved next time!
‘Diary of a Penguin-Napper’ cupcakes - CUTE!
After the color run we had brunch and then I headed over to my cousin’s book launch, Diary of a Penguin-Napper. You can read her post HERE! This is her first book so all very exciting! I finally reached home late afternoon and was totally exhausted. However I have rallied this week and spent my days making Christmas Cards and applying for jobs. Oh and did I mention in between all this Warrnambool was left with no Telstra coverage!? It was bizarre, I can assure you that much!
Anyway, Happy Friday my dear’s… till next week x
This time next week we will be finished! FINISHED! So exciting yet so scary, I cannot believe that after everything this year has thrown at us it is almost time to put the final touches together, attach our PDF and e-mail it in. Cue: Freak Out.
I am not usually a caffeine drinker but last weekend I decided it was the only way I was going to get through this last little bit of the Honours year. I spent the weekend absolutely wired on coffee but also did some of my most productive work to date. Someone should have got me onto this earlier! And if I do say so myself I was also impressed that I spent both Friday and Saturday night at home working on this thesis rather than going out. My social life has been in serious lock down so I am very much looking forward to letting loose next Friday night!
This is actually what I need… a constant caffeine drip!
Monday and Tuesday were fairly hectic trying to finish bits and pieces off before a bit of a break on Wednesday. My supervisor had some of her own research work to complete so I just did a few admin things while I waited for her to send my edits back. However she also told me to start putting the final product together… which I did… a little hesitantly. Again, cue Freak Out. It is a very weird feeling to see something that you have been working on for the last 10 months all come together in one final document. However I am a little excited that in a week I will be back to doing what I do best… being a lady of leisure. Ha. I wish. Maybe for a few days and then it is time to start scouring a job of some description… or a sugar daddy.
The sugar daddy was a joke. Maybe.
Thursday I was back at the library with two friends and had quite a productive day punctuated by a handful of coffee breaks. Caffeine is doing me wonders! However of course it does mean that all my work does need to be re-checked in a de-caffeinated state the following day as sometimes the work that is written is a tad, well, wonky, to say the least!
Friday I went into Caulfield to have a look at the thesis’ from previous years before resuming edits to my discussion chapter. I think I am going to have to spend time at Caulfield next week working on formatting and making sure everything is in the right order and looking pretty.
I would also like to make a quick mention to my supervisor who has been absolutely spectacular… loads of e-mails passing back and forth between us and yet again she has gone above and beyond all expectations. On that note… any ideas for end of year gifts?
So readers, this journey is almost over, wish me luck for the final week… I look forward to seeing you all on the other side, when real life begins once more!
Please note, no articles will be posted next week… for obvious reasons! However please browse the blog and check out any posts you may have missed throughout the year or go to the Other page and check out some of my other work which has been published on other sites this year.

Two weeks and we are done. Done. Where has this year gone? I caught up with a group of lovely ladies for our monthly meeting this week and they were all commenting on the fact that it didn’t seem so long ago I was anguishing over wether to actually go ahead with Honours or not. And now it’s all but over.
After completing my undergraduate degree in 2010 I was unsure if I should get straight into work or study again. At the time I felt so completely over study I decided to work and was fortunate enough to get a full time job fairly quickly. Throughout the year I agonized constantly about going back to do Honours… I spoke to every person, mentor, family member, friend I knew for their opinion, made endless pro and con lists and finally decided to go ahead with it.
Feelings I think we have all had during the year. Image via Google
But as with all decisions I make I then spent the first few weeks stressing out wether or not it was the right decision, figuring out what my topic was, how to write a lit review and just generally trying to survive. But it looks like I did, we all did. It is with great thanks to my gorgeous cohort of fellow Honours students that this year has been as good as it has been. There is always someone willing to help and offer some kind of support and assistance.
So two weeks.
Last week was our mid-semester break and despite the fact that it was not really a ‘break’ it was so lovely to be able to escape Melbourne, catch up with old and new friends, see my family, wine & dine… oh and study. My youngest sister is currently completing year 12 so she had me on a very tight schedule. We were at the library by 9am each morning and stayed till late afternoon. She is much more dedicated than me though, I still found lots of time to check e-mail and various blogs. Yes, I am a shocking procrastinator, some things never change. Anyway, it was a great week, starting and ending well by catching up with friends and heading out both Saturday’s. However with only two weekends before we finish I am not going out till this thesis is handed in.
Yesterday we had our exam for ‘Contemporary Issues in Management’. Last exam ever and such a relief to tick another subject off the list. Wednesday was spent preparing and after the exam yesterday I took the rest of the afternoon off to enjoy the sweet sunshine. The rest of the week has been spent working on my results chapter and this weekend I need to complete and it and get going on the discussion chapter.
But for now, it’s back to the writing for me. Happy Friday x
This week has been busy yet reasonably productive. I made sure my calendar was cleared of any engagements and got to work. Seriously long overdue and desperately needed. I studied with a friend on Monday, something I should probably do more often as I think I work better surrounded by people than on my own. Fortunately I think I have a few more study sessions coming up with friends so hopefully that will keep motivation levels up.

On Wednesday we had my favourite (NB: sarcastic tone) stats class before my weekly meeting with my supervisor. I went over a lot of stats stuff with her and am starting to get a bit more of a handle on it all. Once again she has gone above and beyond duties of a supervisor. Massive kudos of thanks!
On Thursday we had our group presentation in our Contemporary Issues class based on team decision making. Very glad to have got that bit of assessment out of the way and I think we were happy with the feedback and grade received.
Then Friday it was our last stats class – HUZZAH! We went over preparation for the exam, not sure if it has settled or revved the nerves up!? Can’t say I have been too attentive in that class, bad by me I know but stats really don’t interest me and because they are not part of my thesis they really, really don’t interest me. Anyway, I just need to spend this weekend preparing for the exam and finish the assignments then it will be done and dusted. Thank goodness! On that note another kudos of thanks must go to my some members in my class for helping me try and get a grip on the assignments, particularly Michael and Jeremy.
As to the thesis, well I think the image above quite adequately reflects how most of the class is currently feeling. We have what feels like an overwhelming amount of work due in but we really have no choice except to push on. With just over a month to go we are all feeling a bit daunted by what lies ahead of us yet there is no use breaking down or complaining, somehow we must keep calm and study on.
Anyway, hope you all have a fab weekend! We have one more week of classes before the mid-semester break and I am going on my city-escape
